Lunar Eclipse Compilation

This is a simple (a.k.a. hastily thrown together) compilation of the lunar eclipse that occurred on December 21, 2010. All the photos were taken with the Nikon D-1 with a 500mm f1:4 Nikor Lens. The first three photos, moving from the bottom left towards the upper right, were taken off mount (handheld), and the remaining three were taken with the camera and lens mounted piggy-back on my Mead TeleStar reflecting telescope. I really pushed it with the third photo and should have mounted the camera.

My original plan was to piggy-back the camera on the telescope from the start and use the scope’s motor drive to track the moon across the sky. Using such a set-up, I would’ve been able to take a time-lapse series of the progression. But I let time get away from me and really was prepared to run that set-up—hopefully I will have another opportunity in the future to try that.
